La técnica SALAD (Suction Assisted Laryngoscopy and Airway Decontamination)

La presencia de fluidos en la vía aérea reduce la efectividad de los intentos de intubación, con independencia del dispositivo utilizado para realizarla. La técnica SALAD (Suction Assisted Laryngoscopy and Airway Decontamination), la intubación asistida por succión continua a través de un catéter rígido, facilita la descontaminación de la vía aérea para optimizar los intentos de intubación. Airway contamination, defined as the presence of blood, emesis, or any other liquid or semi-liquid substance in the airway, has been shown to decrease first-pass success (FPS) at intubation both in simulation and in vivo regardless of whether direct or video laryngoscopy is employed. SALAD technique, intubation assisted with continuous suction through a rigid suction device, facilitates the upper airway decontamination in order to optimize the intubation attempts.
