Eficacia y seguridad del uso de HFNC en pacientes ancianos con insuficiencia respiratoria aguda

Este artículo, que ha obtenido el 18ª premio Pepe Milla, que reconoce al mejor trabajo científico desarrollado por urgenciólogos españoles en el año 2023, en el 34ª Congreso de la Sociedad Española de Medicina de Urgencias y Emergencias, recoge los resultados de un estudio observacional prospectivo sobre 200 pacientes que busca evaluar la eficacia y la seguridad de la oxigenoterapia de alto flujo en pacientes mayores de 75 años con insuficiencia respiratoria aguda no secundaria a COVID-19, refractaria al tratamiento con oxigenoterapia convencional y/o intolerancia a la ventilación no invasiva o la CPAP y sin criterios de ingreso en una unidad de cuidados intensivos. This article, which was awarded with the 18th Pepe Milla prize, that rewards the best scientific article published by Spanish emergency medicine doctors during 2023, shows the results of an prospective observational study with 200 patients aimed at assessing the efficacy and safety of high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC) in elderly patients with acute respiratory failure (ARF) not due to COVID-19, refractory to treatment with conventional oxygen therapy and/or intolerant to noninvasive ventilation (NIV) or continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) and without criteria for admission to intensive care units (ICU).
